J. Safra Sarasin's involvement in CYCLING FOR CHILDREN will help to save children’s lives all over the world. Your participation and support allows us to take a step closer to making the world a better place for children.

We still live in a world where 16,000 children under the age of five die every day from illnesses that could have been prevented, such as pneumonia, diarrhoea and malaria. And almost half the deaths are attributable to malnourishment.

By far the greatest proportion of the world’s infant mortality – 80 percent – occurs in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. In sub-Saharan Africa, one child in 12 dies before reaching the age of five. In Switzerland, it’s one child in 250.

The first thousand days of a child’s life are critical. If a child manages to survive and be protected during this time, the likelihood of dying in early childhood is reduced almost to zero.

UNICEF has 70 years’ experience in working with developing countries and providing help in emergencies. The goal of the United Nations children’s charity is to ensure that all children are given a safe and healthy start in life, and to bring the childhood mortality rate down to zero. Even the death of one child is one too many.

With people like you we can help to ensure that children survive. Your commitment and your support counts. Every 20km round counts!

Imagine a better world for children. A world in which every child has enough to eat, has access to clean drinking water and to health care. That is what you’ll be reaching with your bike: round after round.
